UC Berkeley

When classes finish, it's time to play. ASA staff will organize interesting and active extracurricular options any time classes are not in session. Plus, San Francisco and Berkeley are at your fingertips. Each Monday night, when RA groups meet, students will learn the full schedule of that week's activities and trips.


Every weekend and on some weekdays, we'll travel beyond Berkeley to explore some of the most beautiful and exciting areas in the Bay and Northern California. Whenever possible, trips will feature multiple options and free time to explore, allowing your excursion to be personalized to make your trip uniquely interesting.

Included Trips:

San Francisco - Trip 1

Visit Union Square, famous as a fantastic shopping locale -- with every major department store and specialty store imaginable within a half-mile radius of the square. All sights are within walking distance (the theatre district is just blocks away) so Union Square is an excellent place to spend the afternoon. Explore Chinatown, where the first Chinese immigrants in San Francisco settled in the 1850's and over 10,000 of the city's Chinese residents live today. An active commercial center, Chinatown offers traditional herb and produce vendors, fortune cookie factories and some of the city's best restaurants.

San Francisco Trip 2

Enjoy the view from Golden Gate Bridge as you walk across the remarkable 1.2 mile span before spending time in beautiful Golden Gate Park where you can relax and toss a Frisbee or visit the memorable Conservatory of Flowers and Japanese Tea Garden. If you prefer, you can visit the Haight, known for its activism in the 60s and 70s (former home of The Grateful Dead), and for its colorful mix of eclectic shops, restaurants, and cafes today. Finally, you wouldn't feel as if you'd been to San Francisco without a walk up Nob Hill and a view of the famous painted ladies of 'Postcard Row.'

Alcatraz Island

Board a ferry for "The Rock," and tour the infamous prison that housed such notorious criminals as Al Capone and the Birdman of Alcatraz. flower press making, beading, summerbook, henna tattooing, cookie baking, soap making, origami, hemp jewelry making, tie-dye, mosaic flowerpots

Palo Alto/Stanford University

Tour Stanford University, including the Rodin Garden and Cantor Art Museum, and explore the Bay Area's "other" great university town.

Santa Cruz/UC Santa Cruz

After visiting the forested campus of UC Santa Cruz, enjoy a day on the beach or the classic Boardwalk amusement park.

SF Giants Baseball

Catch the NL West champion Giants in their new stadium by the Bay.

Six Flags Marine World

Experience America's only combination wildlife aprk, oceanarium and theme park, which included 33 exciting rides and "Roar," a classic wooden roller coaster.
