ASA in Cádiz Academics

The academic portion of the program is considered integral to the total learning experience and is an essential part of Spanish in España. The major objective of the language instruction is to expand your vocabulary and idiomatic expressions. Conversations with your homestay family will stretch your abilities, exchanges with new friends will boost your confidence and formal classroom instruction will reinforce all that you are learning. Our teaching staff is a team of experienced and dynamic Spanish instructors who are experts in the language, culture and life of Spain.

Classes are mandatory and are held each morning from 10:00 am to 1:30 pm except Wednesdays, which are reserved for excursions. Classes are divided into two one and a half- hour periods during which students will advance their knowledge of Spanish by using oral, reading and writing skills. One period is devoted to grammar and vocabulary, emphasizing survival tools for daily living in Spain; the second period focuses on cultural themes and communicative skills to facilitate integration into Spanish life. Two or three levels of Spanish will be offered at each site, depending upon the size of the group: intermediate, upper intermediate and advanced. Placement will be determined by a diagnostic test given on the first day of class in Spain. An ASA transcript will be issued at the end of the program.
