Experienced College Counselors
At each ASA CAP program, a team of experienced college counselors will lead students in their discovery of the college admissions process. CAP college counselors are dedicated counseling professionals who are currently working in the field as college admissions officers or high school college counselors. Many counselors have real college admissions experience and provide priceless inside knowledge about the process.
One-on-One Counseling
Each college counselor will work closely with you and meet with you for at least two individual counseling sessions. These personalized sessions give you the opportunity to take lessons learned in larger college admissions workshops and apply them to your individual experience. Together with your counselor you'll work to define your list of target schools, refine your extracurricular resume and discuss ways to reach your admissions goals in the upcoming year or years.
Admissions Workshops
In the evening, you'll meet for workshops that will focus on various aspects of the admissions process. Workshops will provide a very practical time to apply your skills, test your knowledge and ask questions. With approximately 20 hours of interactive, engaging workshops you will gain greater insight into almost every aspect of the college admissions process.
Workshops include:
> College Selection: Gain the tools critical to any college search and begin the important process of refining your search results.
> Building an Extracurricular Resume: Compile the raw material for your application resume and learn how to present it effectively.
> Completing the College Application: Work through every element of the written application including: online applications, software generated applications, recommendation letters, appearance, and short answer questions.
> Mock Admissions Committee: Become a member of the admissions committee, review admission applications and understand the process from the inside out.
