ASA in Costa Rica offers high school students a true language immersion adventure. The program is a unique opportunity to live, study, volunteer and experience Costa Rica in its real-life context. The combination of intensive formal language instruction with real life immersion in the life and culture of Costa Rica helps you to improve fluency and confidence in the language and gain an intimate knowledge and relationship with Costa Rica. Through living closely with a family, students quickly become adjusted and find themselves speaking Spanish more easily than they ever thought possible.

Costa Rica is famous for the friendliness and welcoming nature of its people. Your homestay families are carefully selected by ASA’s local homestay coordinator and we prepare every placement by looking at your Homestay questionnaire which you receive after you apply to the program. Live with gracious Tico families who welcome you into their community and include you in their daily routine. It’s a wonderful opportunity to develop lasting friendships, improve your Spanish, and test your language skills in real-life everyday situations. You will not be treated as a tourist but as a special guest and member of a Costa Rican family.
